Red lentil soup recipe or Bengali style dal recipe will show you how to cook Bengali style dal. Dal is one of the signature dishes of Bengali cuisine. People like to consume dal as a side dish along with rice, small fish curry, vegetable fry (vaji), egg fry, fish fry, etc. Lentil soup is not a regional food recipe but Bengali style dal is. Indian people mostly Bengali people like dal most. Basically, dal is an Indian food recipe. Cooking dal is a very easy recipe but if you mistake any step you might not reach the real taste. Follow these instructions accurately to make dal with actual taste. So, let's go with the red lentil soup recipe.

Total time: 45 minutes

Serving: 4-6 persons


Ingredients for a dal recipe

200 grams of red lentil

1 cup onion thinly sliced

4 big garlic cloves sliced

4-5 green chili split by middle

3-4 pieces of white cardamom

Salt as per taste

1 teaspoon turmeric powder

1/2 teaspoon cumin seed

2 pieces of bay leaf

1 cinnamon stick

1 tablespoon panch foron 

1 tablespoon mustard oil



Method

How to cook red lentil soup?

Step 1:

First, wash the lentil until it releases clean water. Then take a big cooking pot and pour 2 liters of clean water, all the lentils, 1/2 cup of sliced onion, sliced garlic, green chili, crushed white cardamom, and salt as per taste.




Step 2:

Set the pot to the stovetop and set hit medium then cook for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes keep the hit medium-low. Be careful it may boil over. If it starts to boil over, use a big spoon to detach the foam.


Step 3:

After 15 minutes of cooking the lentil will be soft, then stove the lentil with a dal whisker until all lentils get melted. Add turmeric powder and cook for 5 minutes.



Step 4: 

After 20 minutes of cooking remove the pot from the stove. Set another skillet on the stove add mustard oil and hit it up. When oil is hot add the rest of 1/2 cup of onion, bay leaf, cinnamon stick, cumin seed, panch foron, and fry until onion is brown red. 



Step 5: 

When the onion is brown red then pour the lentil into the skillet and cook for 5 minutes. And it is done.



Serve:

You can serve it with any dish as a side dish. Even in launch, dinar or in Bangladeshi breakfast also.

Tips

If you want to add any sour stuff such as green mango, dried mango, sour olive, etc. For sour taste in this dal recipe, you can add on step number 2.
